Server Management includes software to control servers and
the server processes that run on them. It also includes
management clients that manipulate Server Managers.
The following components currently comprise
Server Management:
-
Server Manager
The Server Manager is a cross-platform daemon process that
manages other daemon server processes. It starts processes,
monitors them for health, and automatically restarts them if they
fail. It also disables persistently failing processes and can
notify administrators of serious problems. In addition, it
provides a remote administrative interface that allows developers
and system administrators to debug processes, capture log files,
make software upgrades and patches, and install new features, all
remotely.
-
Server/Network Controller
Like the Server Remote, the Server Controller communicates with
Server Managers. Instead of controlling one Server Manager at a
time, the Server Controller operates on an entire network of
Server Managers, enabling you to quickly and easily stop and start
groups of distributed processes as well as deploy large numbers of
jar file upgrades.
-
Server Manager Application
The Server Manager is a cross-platform daemon process that manages
other daemon server processes. This project makes the Server
Manager a simple, easy-to-use
executable jar for use on modern
Java-capable systems that support executable jars.
-
Remote Control
The Remote Control is a graphic application that allows you to
interact with Server Managers. It connects to one or more Server
Managers and enables you to check on server process status, start
and stop server processes, collect log files, adjust property
settings, and make in-the-field software upgrades, all remotely.
