The Planetary Data System (PDS) Data Distribution System
(PDS-D) uses the
OODT Data Grid
Framework
's product servers to support search and
retrieval of planetary data. The Unix Product Server is for
discipline nodes running some Unix-compatible operating system
such as Solaris, FreeBSD, and so forth. (Linux users with
RPM-based package managers should use
the
Linux RPM release
instead.) On Unix, the Product Server logs messages to the
system logger.
To install the Product Server for Unix, download the
compressed archive package, uncompress it, and read the
INSTALL.txt file in the archive. You will need to
have
Java 2 Software
Development Kit 1.4.2 or later
and a C compiler on your
system as well.
Your system will need to be accessible on the public
Internet, and any firewall protecing your system must allow
incoming TCP/IP traffic to port 7576 from
*.jpl.nasa.gov
. (The product server's traffic is
HTTP, and, if necessary, you can run the server on a
different port.)
